After we saw in the first series of the Rock Star edition, this time around RS featured an all-star line-up of rock musicians who joined forces to form the new rock super group, Supernova. Using this summer's show as the competition to determine a new lead singer for themselves, the existing members of Supernova, featuring drummer Tommy Lee (Motley Crue), Jason Newsted (Metallica) and Gilby Clarke (Guns N' Roses) took up judging duties with the returning co-host Dave Navarro. Co-host Brooke Burke returns for stage introductions when the hopeful vocalists begin the quest to become Supernova's new lead singer, with the winner getting to record an original CD with Supernova.
Rock Star Supernova is the second season of the reality television show Rock Star, hosted by Dave Navarro and Brooke Burke, featuring some 15 contestants competing to become the lead vocalist for a newly formed supergroup called Supernova.
This time around Supernova was granted an injunction against the television supergroup stating that they cannot use the name "Supernova" for any promotion or perform under that name. With this judicial ruling, the band announced their official name would be "Rock Star Supernova".
The winner vocalist gets to record with Supernova on an entire album after the show's run, the first single was released in September 2006, with the bands first concert performance on New Year's Eve at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. A world tour followed in early 2007, with contestant Lukas Rossi becoming the front-man of Supernova on September 13, 2006.
A nice concept I would like to add, considering the quality of musicians that was on showcase, though I would have loved to Dilana winning it who came in second – she had the voice and looks to front a supergroup of this stature!!!
