After dressing her wildly popular characters in Gucci, Dior and other designers’ ensemble, Candace Bushnell, the author of the hit HBO series “Sex and the City” now dresses women in the pants. Her latest novel “Lipstick Jungle” which is adapted into a weekly television serial on NBC is “centered on three rich, fashionable career women in Manhattan juggling high-octane jobs and perfidious men in the mid to late afternoon of their lives.” The show’s resemblance to “Cashmere Mafia” from Darren Star, executive producer of “Sex and the City” is no coincidence. Though, lots of people expected the two shows to be almost the same (just different nights and channels). And the shows do have similarities: big stars, female characters in powerful jobs and titles. But as you sit through the first few episodes of Lipstick Jungle, you’ll know it will be a much more gratifying show which certainly has potential.
“Lipstick Jungle,” is a comedy-drama that concerns about three high-powered, glamorous, wealthy friends living in the Big Apple. The show features all star cast with talent. Blue Lagoon famed Brooke Shields, leads the cast of “Lipstick Jungle” as Wendy, a movie executive who also balances her career and family. Lindsay Price and Kim Raver play the part of Wendy’s friends Nico O’Neilley and Victory Ford. Free-spirited designer Victory longs to make her dreams come true and also her relationship with billionaire Joe Bennett while Nico, the brilliant editor-in-chief of a hot fashion magazine Bonfire, has her eyes on becoming CEO. But in a mid-life crisis, she suddenly realizes this isn’t enough. The show has some major fireworks flying as Kirby played by 26-years old actor Robert Buckley and Nico heat up the screen.
Armed with humour and strength, the show delivers the story of these three modern New York women who’re much smarter and appealing and support one another through the triumphs and tears. The cast is pretty strong, the show provides something that is easy to watch and very entertaining and the addictive plots, sex and scandal is what keeps you enthralled and guessing to the very last minute of the show.
