Every time I'd come to channel number 328 on my hathway set top box, I'll quickly flip the channel to 408 which is the number for M-the-veh baby (MTV). And then, it happened, one such day, as I was lazily surfing through the channels, I saw a bald, dark guy tasting some red wine. I forgot which soap I was looking for and found myself glued to the TV screen (not that I am into wine, not that I am into bald men). They way he spoke, the way he'd smell the wine, the way he'd hold the wine glass, it fascinated me all. By the end of 25 minutes, he had had lunch and dinner, tasted some French Caviar, chatted up and assisted the chef who made the caviar, had10-15 glasses of wine (both red and white) got a little tipsy on some liquor chocolate and called it a night.
That is when I realized that I had watched through almost the entire episode and I thought to myself, some guy!!! Since then on I'd make sure to stop at channel number 328 to find out if he is on air and every time I'd see him there I'd forget about everything else. It was much later that I found out that channel number 328 had a name and that it is called NDTV Goodtimes, the show was called Around the World in 85 Plates and the guy who had infatuated me is Sommelier Magandeep Singh. If you think I watch the show just because I find him hot, you are bang on correct. Although this show goes to nooks and corners untouched by other shows, it is solely because of the "viewing pleasure" that I am so hooked on to the show. On the course of sheer "viewing pleasure" I did learn a thing or two though, like French Fries is not the most authentic food of The French, it is actually a dish called foie gras (fu-aa-gra) which is duck liver (not very tempting is it).
I have become such a huge fan of Mr. Singh that I very proudly quote that "definitely it is one of my most favorite shows of all times", which by the way also proves one very lesser known quote in-correct "after all it is not who presents it, it is how you present it". If I had my way I would rename the show to "The Sommelier Magandeep Singh Travel Show" and I'll put a cheesy tagline "Charisma Redefined".
