It was as if yesterday that I saw 3rd Rock From The Sun, well it was yesterday I saw it, and how can you forget Dick from the Tom, Dick and Harry scenario of the ‘alienated’ show. The Emmy winning (three times in 1996, 1997 and 1999) Dick was played by John Lithgow - was born October 19 1945. Following in his fathers footsteps of directing and producing theater, he got into acting during his time at Harvard University.
After graduating magna cum laude from Harvard, John attended the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art with a brilliant Broadway career with 2 Tony awards and 5 nominations.
However, all said and done Lithgow did not stop at this mere task, he’s also been spotted in a couple of movies. We’ve seen him in movies like Kinsey and the voice of Lord Farquaad in Shrek. Add to that his nominations "Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or a Special" Emmy for The Day After (1983), two "Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Special" Emmys for "Resting Place" (1986) and "My Brother's Keeper" (1995). Lithgow was approached about playing Dr. Frasier Crane on Cheers, but turned it down. Lithgow starred with Jeffrey Tambor in the NBC sitcom Twenty Good Years. And the cherry is probably starring in Campbell Soup Company's commercials advertising their "Campbell's Select" premium soup brand.
Guess, Lithgow doesn’t quite ‘dick’ around in a alienated sort of way!!!
